Looking for a new place to chill, spend holidays and also deepen your religious knowledge? Maybe Banda Aceh is the answer. Banda Aceh is capital city of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province located in Indonesia; South East Asia. How to get to Banda Aceh? I hope this information will help you. Banda Aceh has one international airport that served flight from Malaysia directly through Kuala Lumpur. If you are Singaporean, you have to go to Kuala Lumpur at first. Or, if you want to enjoy a little holiday in Batam, you may visit Batam. Lion Air served flight from Batam as well. Banda Aceh can be achieved with Garuda Indonesia flying from Jakarta.

When arrived in Banda Aceh, check in to the hotel and get ready to begin the tour. Don’t forget to visit Baiturrahman Grand Mosque (Masjid Agung Baiturrahman), Aceh Tsunami Museum, Ship on the House (Kapal Diatas Rumah) and having Mie Razali for lunch. After finished lunch, you may continue your journey to visit floating diesel power plants (PLTD Apung). After visiting PLTD Apung, you can walk around this city waiting for dinner hour.

You may not be familiar with the atmosphere in Banda Aceh on evening. Yep, although time shows at 19.00 (GMT +7), the sky doesn’t turned dark as well as in other places in Sumatra. Dinner hour for Aceh residents in general is around 20.00. So you will find several points already crowded at this hour. What to eat on dinner?

I highly recommend you to visit REX Peunayong located in Kuta Alam and try Sate Matang. After eating satay and enjoy the atmosphere, let’s move to another spot of night culinary. What thing that tourists most love and easy to find in Banda Aceh? Yep, COFFEE! I ended up my night in Banda Aceh with sipping every single drop of espresso. Don’t worry about the place. It’s very easy to find coffee shops that open at night in this city.

Once you satisfied with night-coffee, you may back to hotel and get rest also get ready for next day trip to Pulau Weh (the article will be posted soon). On the way you want to travel to Pulau Weh, you may visit Warung Kopi Solong Ulee Kareng for having breakfast or sip a coffee. And our story will continue to Pulau Weh. Don’t go anywhere, okay? I will provide you some tips in order to visit Banda Aceh.

  • In Banda Aceh, female visitors are advised to wear skirt or trousers (not jeans or other tight pants), long sleeves and prepare a veil or scarf to cover your hair. Find cotton clothing so as to absorb sweat.
  • Because renting a car is quite difficult, I recommend you to book in advance. Info on car rentals can be obtained from selected hotel/inn.
  • Arm yourself with a complete identity such as passport, visa, KITAS (if any), or identity card. Aceh citizens abiding by local rules that prohibiting unmarried couples living in one room. I recommend you to bring a copy of marriage certificate if you are travelling as husband and wife.
  • I have another culinary spot in Banda Aceh such as: Ayam Tangkap, Rujak Aceh, Canai Mamak Kuala Lumpur, Ayam Penyet Pak Ulis, and Ayam Pramugari.

Curious about my trip to Pulau Weh? Stay tuned! 🙂
